Helen Biggerstaff is our resident Soft Tissue Therapist. Helen trained at Oxford School of Sports Massage and has been practicing in the Berks/Bucks area for over 9 years, she is a Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist (the highest qualification there is in her field). Helen has clients from many sporting disciplines including runners, cyclists, swimmers and even an international woman’s cricket umpire. Helen, who is also a keen swimmer at Taplow Lakeside, has agreed to base herself at the lake for part of her working week and this is a fantastic opportunity for our swimmers and other visitors to get a regular massage whilst at Taplow.
Helen will be offering both Sports Massage and Remedial Massage. Sports Massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. It is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
Apart from her work with sportsmen and women Helen also has an elderly client base who benefit from regular remedial massages. As an example one of her long term clients is almost 90 and regular massages help with his Parkinson’s Disease.
Remedial massage is a therapeutic form of massage that aims to relieve muscle tension and treat chronic pain. This form of massage is good for anybody, including those with medical conditions, given its therapeutic and calming nature.
When not massaging Helen can be found running and riding the trails in the Chilterns and dipping in the Lake at Taplow. She loves being immersed in nature and is a keen bird watcher.
